A spark plug is a small device for delivering electrical current to a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine to ignite the compressed air/fuel mixture, while containing sufficient combustion pressure inside the engine for ignited combustion. The spark is usually supplied by means of a metallic tube extending from the carburetor to the spark plug. This can either be made of metal (stainless steel) or a thin film of plastic (polyvinyl chloride (PVC), also called the fuel plug) deposited on the top of the fuel tank. Both types of plugs have the advantage over the other in that metal and plastic plug cartridges are much more durable than the former and last longer. Spark plugs are used to power the ignition system and are therefore only present in internal combustion engines. In modern diesel cars, spark plugs are still used to power the induction kit and are not to be confused with fuel injectors. However, in a gas engine, the spark plugs may be present but are not essential. Therefore, it is important to know what your engine is really made of if you want to take proper care of it.

If you own a diesel engine then the chances are that the spark plugs will have been replaced during the last restoration work or after buying the car. If the car was a gift then either the previous owner or the retailer must have had it repaired at some stage. Even if the engine was bought new, the spark plugs need to be replaced periodically because they are essential for the complete ignition sequence in the engine. Without spark plugs, the combustion process would simply stop when the car comes into contact with the spark. Without ignition, there would be no ignition and therefore, no drive.

The spark plugs are also used for the purpose of mixing the air/fuel mixture which is required for the smooth running of the vehicle. If the mixture is incorrect then the engine cannot run properly and this results in a lot of inconvenience to the owner. In addition, if the mixture is incorrect, the temperature of the gas emitted would be incorrect and this could cause malfunctioning of the engine as well. Spark plugs are very important for the proper functioning of the internal combustion engine and without them, the performance of the engine would not be possible.

They keep the spark plugs lit for the purpose of allowing the mixture to mix with the fuel before the ignition occurs. The mixture is basically the water and gasoline that are combined and held together by the catalyst. Spark plugs are also responsible for ensuring that the pressure in the combustion chamber is at its optimum. If this function is impaired, the car would definitely break down soon after starting.

However, platinum is also becoming popular because it has the ability to withstand extreme heat range and does not get damaged easily when subjected to heat. The most ideal spark plugs have the ability to withstand extreme heat range and have the best electrode fit. The best electrodes should have the ability to resist high temperatures and have the capability to reach the ignition area in the smallest time.
